BIO:

Ada Chung is a representational landscape oil painter and a recent resident of Vancouver Island. Her work primarily focuses on capturing the distinctive energy of each region and its unique emotional resonance. Born in British Columbia’s interior and raised by artist parents, her work is deeply influenced and inspired by her love of wild places and early artistic encouragement.

Statement:

I’m constantly humbled and amazed by the beauty and power of the natural world. Overcome with appreciation and inspiration from every subtle colour shift, rock and cloud. My intention is for each painting to reflect both the physical reality of the landscape and the emotional response it inspired. Composing paintings lead by feelings and impulse.

Over the past few summers, I’ve started including an en plein air (outdoor) painting practice which has been an incredible teacher, providing learning opportunities to better study light, shadow, atmosphere and how these elements contribute to a location’s mood and energy. These thoughtful studies allow for inclusion of details in studio paintings that only whilst on location the discerning eye can see.
